MINOT, N.D. – The Souris (SOO'-rihs) River has dropped below flood stage for the first time since spring in the North Dakota city of Minot (MY-naht).
KXMC-TV reports that the river registered below the flood stage of 1,549 above sea level on Saturday. The river was above flood stage for 73 days this year.
About 11,000 people were evacuated from Minot neighborhoods nearest the river before it broke a high-water record that had stood for 130 years. It later crested at about 1,561.7 feet above sea level, nearly 13 feet above flood stage at the city's Broadway Bridge.
The flooding damaged 4,100 homes in the city along with hundreds of businesses.
