Ore. officer shooting fugitive search in 5th day

WALDPORT, Ore. – Police say they are not sure whether a man wanted in the shooting of a police officer on the Oregon coast is still in the beachfront neighborhood they have been searching all week in Waldport.

Newport Police Chief Mark Miranda told OPB Radio's Think Out Loud on Friday they are holding one SWAT team in reserve, but sending three others home in hopes that if the fugitive is still there, he'll come out if he thinks police are leaving.

Police have been searching for David Anthony Durham of Portland since Sunday night, when a Lincoln City officer was shot during a traffic stop.

Police chased Durham's SUV down U.S. 101, and forced it to stop in Waldport with a spike strip across the highway. The driver fled on foot.
