Handcuffed Woman Allegedly Drives Away in Police Car

When Florida police handcuffed a woman as part of an investigation and placed her in the backseat of their patrol car, they didn’t count on her next move -- to drive away.

The incident happened when Riviera Beach Police received a call from resident Crystal Ivory, who reported a possible case of sexual assault. When police arrived at Ivory’s house to investigate, they handcuffed her and placed her in the car for her own safety, the Palm Beach Post reports.

Authorities then said Ivory managed to shift her wrists to the front of her body and squeeze through a window to enter the driver’s seat of the car. Police say she then drove off in the cruiser, only to have her escape cut short after colliding with a pickup truck down the road.

The woman and the truck driver were transported to a local hospital for observation and treatment. Ivory faces pending charges, but details have not yet been disclosed.
