NEW YORK -- Fire officials say a blaze in a Brooklyn apartment building has injured 33 civilians, three of them critically.

The New York City Fire department press office says firefighters received the call at 5:12 a.m. Sunday about a blaze in a four-story building on 61st Street in Brooklyn.

Chris Korzekwinski (kor-zuh-KWIN'-skee) at the press office says 33 civilians have been hurt and three of them are in critical condition. Two others are in serious condition.

He says the main body of the fire has been extinguished, but firefighters are still working to put out smaller pockets in the building.

There are no reports of any firefighters hurt.

No other information was immediately available.
