Alaska woman guilty of role in mom's death when 16

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – An Alaska jury has convicted a 22-year-old woman of negligent homicide in a case that alleged she arranged to have two men kill her mother more than six years ago.

The Anchorage jury on Thursday acquitted Rachelle Waterman of conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree murder.

Waterman was 16 when prosecutors said she planned with her current boyfriend and a former boyfriend to have 48-year-old Lauri Waterman killed.

Both men pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and are in prison.

Waterman's 2006 trial ended in a hung jury and authorities decided to retry her.

Prosecutors argued that the teen knew of the plan to kill her mother in November 2004. They say the former boyfriend entered the family's home and abducted Lauri Waterman, beat her and suffocated her before torching her body.
