FLORENCE, Ala. – A spokesman says three University of North Alabama employees were not hurt by a threatening letter containing a suspicious white powder that arrived in the mail.
The letter prompted authorities to evacuate a building and decontaminate the three staff members who were cleared to go home Thursday.
University spokesman Josh Woods says it wasn't immediately clear whether the powder was hazardous. He says the building will reopen Friday morning.
Authorities say a letter addressed to a faculty member was delivered to the fifth floor of Stevens Hall, which houses the administrative offices of the college of education.
Woods says the letter alarmed the people who read it.
The University of North Alabama is in the northwest part of the state and has about 7,200 students.
